Moving on from PEAR to PECL

Although we have barely scratched the surface of the code in PEAR, PECL has some even more interesting technologies for PHP.

Ultimately, it is likely all "standard" PHP extensions will be moved into PECL, and future PHP releases will come with the latest stable version of selected PECL extensions.

Let's look at some of the more interesting extensions currently in PECL.
